What is RDEC?
RDEC is a tax relief for large enterprises who undertake projects which meet the definition of R&D
- R&D Tax Credits is for small-to-medium sized enterprises, RDEC is for large enterprises (those employing over 500 people, or with a turnover above 100 million euros per year
- It enables companies to reduce, or offset, the corporation tax liabilities of the large enterprise of group of linked companies, as well as claiming cash back, depending upon the accounting position of the organisations involved
- There were 11,115 RDEC claims in the 2021/2022 tax year
- A total of £2.4 billion was claimed via RDEC in 2021/22
- The average claim value was over £250,000 per claim
